The Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State has banned night trading beyond 11:00 p.m. as part of security measures against criminal activities in the area.

Mr Olusegun Ajimotokin, the Chairman of the Local Government, made this known in a statement on Friday at Ode-Irele.

Ajimotokin said the measure was the outcome of a security and intelligence meeting held by the council to secure the lives and property of residents.

He also said the meeting was part of his commitment to improve security in the council and boost the morale of security personnel.

“As part of security measures put in place to secure lives and property of residents of Irele Local Government, late night trading, wandering about beyond 11:00 pm and roaming about by students during school hours is hereby prohibited.

“This is an outcome of security and intelligence meeting held with the police and other security agencies to ensure tight security and stem criminal activities in our council.

“Police and other security agencies have been ordered to arrest perpetrators as they will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

Ajimotokin urged heads of security agencies in the council to be more vigilant and committed to effectively deal with crimes and criminalities in the area.

He also stressed the need for night patrol, especially new sites across the local government area, noting that robbery cases were reported mainly at the new sites.

SP Oluwole Ogodo, the Divisional Police Officer in Irele, commended the council boss for his efforts at curbing criminal activities in the area.
