Chief Bisi Akande, former Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo as a philanderer on the political field.
In his book, titled ‘My Participations,’ the former Osun governor said Obasanjo is a “faithless suitor” who can be trusted at one’s peril.
Akande was Governor of Osun State between 1999 and 2003 during the first tenure of Obasanjo as President.
During Obasanjo’s second term, all AD Governors in the South-West except Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of Lagos failed to win re-election amidst the incursion of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the geopolitical zone.
Akande also bamed Obasanjo for the death of Bola Ige, a former governor of old Oyo State, who served as a minister under Obasanjo.
Akande noted that Olu Falae eventually emerged the flagbearer of the alliance, but Ige led Falae’s presidential campaign in the South-West.
He said, “Obasanjo won and yet, would not leave Ige alone. Obasanjo visited Ige three times in his Bodija home, Ibadan, after he emerged as the President-elect, pressuring him to come and take up the ministerial appointments.
“Ige finally agreed to serve when he was given the go-ahead by our movement Afenifere, and our party, the AD. It was late before he realized it was a kiss of death. All this made me wary of Obasanjo’s relentless dalliance. I knew him to be a faithless suitor and an unblinking philanderer on the political field. You trust him at your own peril.”
