The newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has called for unity and collective support from the people of Oyo and its surrounding areas as he embarks on his reign.

In a heartfelt video shared on Friday by Prince Akanni Segun Olalekan on Facebook, Oba Owoade, speaking in Yoruba, greeted the community, saying, ” I extend my greetings to the people of Oyo and its surroundings.

“I am the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo. I want unity in Oyo and I know with your support, by God’s grace, all the good plans I have for the people of Oyo will be fulfilled.”

The Oyo State government has fixed April 5, 2025 for the coronation of Owoade.

To ensure the smooth planning and execution of the upcoming coronation, the Oyo State Government has set up a 25-member committee dedicated to overseeing the event.

The committee, formed on February 3, 2025, includes key representatives from the Alaafin’s palace, state government officials, and other crucial stakeholders.

The inauguration ceremony was led by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, who emphasised the importance of unity and collaboration in making the event a success.

Governor Seyi Makinde officially installed Oba Abimbola Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo by presenting him with the staff of office on January 13, 2025, marking the formal beginning of his reign.
