The substantive Controller of Corrections, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Francis John, has warned Nigerians against trafficking.
Speaking at the Conclusion of his familiarization tour and Inspection of all Custodial Center in FCT Command, the Controller called on Staff of these facilities to be diligent in the discharge of their duties.
He urged his men to be up and doing in their various duties posts, noting that, theybmust avoid absenteeism and extortion of inmates, as he would not condone trafficking or any form of misconduct.
The FCT Controller further warned staff against instigation of inmates to authorities as it will have it’s damning consequences adding that, the peace of any Custodial Center, translates to peace of the society at large and they must take credit for that.
To the inmates, Controller Francis encouraged them to keep hope alive, as their imprisonment was not the end of life but a moment of trial, saying they should see their imprisonment as a moment of trial and a time to prepare for the future.
The Controller also called on inmates to live at peace with one another during their stay and to take advantage of the skill acquisition and education programmes of the service, to learn a trade or bag other educational qualifications to make them better persons upon discharge.
The inspection tour which began on Monday 8th of January 2024, was aimed at familiarizing himself with the custodial centres, staff and inmates under his command, as well as inspect their level of compliance to standing order, rules and regulation of the job in line with international best practices.
