The Lagos Metropolitan Transport Authority has unveiled details regarding the commencement of operations for the Blue Line rail system, scheduled to begin on September 4, 2023.
The cost of a single trip from Lagos to Marina on this rail system will be set at N750 per journey, as announced through an image shared on LAMATA’s official social media platform.
In accordance with the directive from the State Governor, a 50% reduction in transportation fares will also be applicable to the Blue Line rail system.
The inauguration of the railway system took place in January 2023, under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. However, commercial operations have yet to officially commence.
The Blue Line project encompasses a 27-kilometer rail route, spanning from Okokomaiko to the east, passing through Mile 2, and ultimately reaching Marina via Ijora.
Currently, only the first phase, covering a distance of 13 kilometres from Marina to Mile 2, is operational, featuring five stations at Marina, National Theatre, Orile Iganmu, Suru-Alaba, and Mile 2.
The second phase, once completed, will extend the rail line an additional 27 kilometres to Okokomaiko in Ojo.
