The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has described the recently concluded local government elections in Ondo State as a triumph for democracy and grassroots governance. The elections were held across the state’s 18 local government areas on Saturday.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Alao Babatunde, Tunji-Ojo congratulated the winners and commended other contestants for their courage and sportsmanship.
He lauded the process as evidence of Nigeria’s advancing democratic maturity and the commitment of Ondo State citizens to fostering effective local governance.
Reflecting on the significance of the elections, Tunji-Ojo stated, “When the people embrace peace, uphold fairness, and commit to democratic values, progress becomes inevitable. Ondo State has once again demonstrated that unity and maturity are the hallmarks of true democracy.”
The Minister emphasized that the peaceful conduct of the elections symbolized a collective victory for the people.
“This election is a victory for all — no victor, no vanquished. I urge the newly elected local government officials to ensure the true benefits of the local government autonomy facilitated by the Federal Government reach the people,” he added.
Tunji-Ojo also praised the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) and security agencies for their professionalism in conducting the elections.
Additionally, he commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his dedication to strengthening democratic practices across Nigeria and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for creating an enabling environment for a free, fair, and credible election process.
