The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive prohibiting police operatives from carrying assault rifles while dressed in civilian attire.

This order follows numerous complaints about human rights violations, which were received through the Force’s complaint channels.

Speaking during a virtual meeting with strategic police managers, the IGP expressed strong disapproval of such practices, emphasizing the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding human rights.

In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP also warned officers against serious breaches of human rights, reinforcing the need for ethical and professional conduct.

The meeting aimed to enhance operational integrity and ensure effective management within the Force.

Additionally, the IGP strictly prohibited the indiscriminate transfer of cases without his written approval nothing that, unauthorized transfers often lead to unnecessary burdens and delays in justice, which will no longer be tolerated.

The IGP Egbetokun, however, directed all officers, regardless of rank, to work together to prevent any misconduct that could damage the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.
