The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has admitted Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, co-defendants in the case against former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, to bail. During a hearing on Thursday before Justice Maryann Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, the EFCC sought an adjournment, citing the 30-day window for the summons issued to the first defendant, Yahaya Bello.
EFCC counsel, Jamiu Agoro, explained that it would be inappropriate to proceed while the summons period was still active. The court agreed to an adjournment, rescheduling the case from November 20 to November 27, as the earlier date was inconvenient for the prosecution.
The defense counsels, Aliyu Saiki, SAN, and Z.E. Abass, representing the second and third defendants, raised no objections to the EFCC’s requests, including an application to serve a hearing notice at Bello’s last known address.
Justice Anenih granted the adjournment and approved the EFCC’s applications, setting November 27, 2024, for the arraignment of Yahaya Bello and his co-defendants, who face a 16-count charge filed by the EFCC.
