Court Dismisses APC North Central Group’s Suit to Remove Ganduje as Party Chairman

A lawsuit filed by the APC North Central Group seeking the removal of Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the APC has been dismissed by the court. The group had taken Ganduje, the APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court, challenging his appointment on the grounds that it violated the party’s constitution.

The group argued that Ganduje’s appointment breached Article 13 of the APC Constitution, as it was not conducted through a democratic process as required by the party’s laws. Additionally, they claimed it was the turn of the North Central geo-political zone to fill the position, not Ganduje’s region.

The plaintiffs, led by Saleh Zazzaga, sought a court order to nullify Ganduje’s appointment and prevent him from continuing to serve as the party’s chairman.

However, the court dismissed the case on multiple grounds. Justice Ekwo ruled that the APC North Central Group lacked legal standing, as it is not a juristic person and therefore had no legal authority to file the suit. The judge also noted that the plaintiffs failed to utilize the party’s internal mechanisms for resolving disputes before approaching the court. Furthermore, the judge held that the appointment of party officers is an internal matter of the APC, which falls outside the jurisdiction of the court.
