Amotekun raises the alarm over planned attacks on Ondo

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has raised the alarm over plans by some criminal elements to launch co-ordinated attacks on the state.

The state Commander of the Corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, while addressing journalists in Akure, yesterday, said the stop-and-search and vehicle identification exercise embarked upon by operatives of the Corps across major roads in the state was backed by law.

Adeleye declared that no amount of criticism would make Amotekun Corps back down on its mandate to rid the state of criminal activities during the Yuletide.

The Amotekun boss disclosed that the operation was being done in collaboration with other security agencies, saying that no fewer than 50 vehicles that violated the directive had been impounded since the operation started.

Adeleye, who dispelled claims in some quarters that the corps operatives were involved in searching mobilephones of motorists, said the personnel were only carrying out search on suspicious tinted vehicles and checking of police permit on tinted vehicles.

He noted that the exercise became imperative following the intelligence report on the disposal of the corps over criminal activities during the Yuletide.
