Ondo Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has inaugurated a 30kw hybrid mini-grid power plant at Ugbonla in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State after decades of living without electricity.
The project, which was flagged off in the first term of the Governor in office, was part of the Governor’s promise to the people in the Southern Senatorial District of the state to solve the problems of electricity supply.
In his first term in office, Akeredolu was able to put up a similar project at Gbagira, which has turned around the socio-economic life of the people.
Inaugurating the power plant in commemoration of his 100 days in office, the Governor assured other communities yet to be connected would be taken care of before long as his administration would do everything possible in ensuring electricity supply across the nooks and crannies of the state.
Managing Director of Ondo State Power Company(OSPC), Engr. Williams Abe, implored the community to ensure the protection of the installations.
He assured that Akeredolu would continue to fulfill his promise to ensure the problem of electricity supply becomes a thing of the past.
Abe noted the hybrid mini-grid power plant is scalable, saying the service provider would increase the capacity in order to take of an expected rise in the use of electricity in the community.
Head of the community, The King of the Zion, Dr. H.M. Ogunfeyinmi, Atarioye Ajigbade Lene II of Ugbonla appreciated the Governor for fulfilling his promise to the people.
He said: “It will interest you Governor sir to know that before you came into office in 2016, darkness has enveloped virtually the entire Ondo South Senatorial District.
“But with your approval and support for A4&T Power Solutions Company, to site solar network project at Ugbonla, it has been let there be light galore in our community.
“We want to use this occasion and medium to appreciate you and your government for not allowing both seen and unseen social, political and spiritual battle and darkness to overrun Ugbonla since you came into Office as Ondo State governor.”
CEO A4& Power Solutions Company Engr. Ayo Ademilua, appreciated the State Government, which entered into a joint venture with his company through OSPC to provide electricity for the use of the people of Ugbonla.
He appreciated the support of the king and the residents for the company, disclosing that right from the inception of the project till the completion, none of the company’s equipment was stolen.
Chairman, Ilaje Local Government Area, Goke Jatuwase appreciated the Governor for the project, saying business activities had picked up in the community since the completion of the power project.
A resident of the community, who simply identified herself as Eunice, appreciated the Governor for the intervention, saying it was a great boost to their businesses in the community.
She disclosed what she spent on the power generating set to freeze her soft drinks was huge compared to what she now expends on the power supply.
