The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore has arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja for his arraignment on remarks he made on social media, referring to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun as an “illegal IG”.
Sowore is facing three charges linked to Cybercrime under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, ETC) Act, 2015, as amended in 2024.
Egbetokun had accused Sowore of deliberately using his verified Twitter account to send messages in which he referred to the Inspector General of Police as the “illegal IGP Kayode Egbetokun.”
The police claim that these posts were false and intended to disrupt public order, stating that Sowore’s messages were designed to incite unrest and weaken the authority of the police force.
