Representatve of Ondo South Senatorial District, Nicholas Tofowomo, has restated the need for everyone, especially youths to be grounded in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to attain a knowledge economy for development.
Tofowomo said this at the training and empowerment on ICT for youths in Okitipupa, Ile-Oluji, headquarters of Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo Council of Ondo State, where he distributed laptops to youths and journalists.
No fewer than 20 journalists working for various media organisations in the state benefitted from the training and empowerment initiative.
He justified the need to train youths and journalists in ICT, as well as give them laptops on the global trend making the economy knowledge a necessity in the 21st century.
Speaking on the performance of the APC’s performance at all levels, he said the party meted untold hardship on the people and would be rejected in the 2023 general elections.
Tofowomo, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described APC as an unsellable party ahead of the 2023 polls, stressing that he would rather quit politics permanently rather than join the ruling party.
While rating the APC administration in Ondo State, he, however, gave it 25 per cent performance, saying it deserved commendation in road construction, but failed in unemployment of youths in the state.
MEANWHILE, a youth group, Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA) Worldwide, yesterday, condemned the spate of ritual killings and drug abuse among youths in the country, calling on the government at all levels to take decisive action against the vices.
In a statement issued by its National President, Olalekan Hammed and National Secretary, Olawale Ajao, the group lamented that the vices have led to moral decadence in society and urged parents, guardians, teachers, community and religious leaders, civil society organisations and others to reawaken the moral compass of Nigerians, especially the youths.
“It is high time the government took decisive action against ritual and drug abuse among Nigerian youths. The rate at which the negative behaviours are causing moral degradation in the nation is unimaginable, to the extent that if not checked, the societal value will be completely eroded.”
“All stakeholders, including parents, guardians, teachers, community and religious leaders, civil society organisations and others have to work hard to reawaken the moral compass of Nigerians, especially the youth,” it said.
