There was pandemonium in Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State as a middle-aged man, Bode Dagunro, was shot dead by suspected armed robbers.

The deceased, a fuel marketer, who lived in Olotu community along Ugbonla in the riverine area, was murdered in cold blood at his residence about 9:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.

An eyewitness, who spoke with The Guardian, said the assailants opened fire on the late Dagunro, and carted away the sum of N2 million from him.

The deceased’s brother, Mr. Olorunwa Francis Malo, a staff of Niger Delta Development Company (NDDC) in Okitipupa, said the robbers invaded the residence of the victim on Saturday.

He said: “They attacked him, shot him on the stomach and carted away the sum of N2 million. My brother was a fuel marketer. We rushed him to a private hospital in Igbokoda where he later died.”

Malo said the corpse has been deposited in the morgue at Igbokoda for autopsy.

A police source, who confirmed the incident, assured that the assailants would be brought to book.

MEANWHILE, a 62 years old man, identified as Moshood Lasisi, has been found dead in his room in Ayede-Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

Lasisi, who was walking on crutches, allegedly hanged himself, when his wife and children had gone to farm.

His corpse was later discovered when the wife returned and knocked severally but without response.

Sources said the deceased had arranged tables and foot stools to carry out the act.

According to the wife, Evangelist Victoria Lasisi, she had to peep through the window, where she saw her husband dangling from the rope, with which, he allegedly hanged himself to the rooftop.

Reacting to the incident, Chairman, Christian Association Of Nigeria (CAN) in Ogbese, Pastor Oyedeji Aladenika, described the incident as shocking and wondered why the man had to commit suicide.
Aladenika mentioned that though the man was leaving with dislocation in his leg, his wife and children were taking care of him.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incidents both in Ilaje and Akure North LGAs, adding that the police have begun investigation on the two incidents.
